From the vibrant streets of Kingston, Jamaica, to stages across the United States, the Caribbean, and beyond, SEA B (Carrol Barrington Marrah) has devoted his life to creating music that inspires, uplifts, and tells meaningful stories. A singer, songwriter, producer, saxophonist, and recording artist, SEA B blends the rich traditions of reggae with elements of rhythm & blues and soul, crafting songs that reflect his Jamaican heritage while speaking to universal themes of hope, perseverance, faith, love, and social justice.
SEA B’s love for music was born in Kingston, where he discovered early that music was more than entertainment—it was a calling. Determined to immerse himself in the sounds that inspired him, he often saved his lunch money to purchase records by legendary artists such as U-Roy, John Holt, and The Paragons. As he matured, the music of Dennis Brown, Peter Tosh, and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, and other R&B artists, helped shape his musical identity and laid the foundation for the distinctive style that would become his own.
While pursuing his education at Excelsior High School and later emigrating to the United States, SEA B never lost sight of his musical dream. While attending college in South Florida, he met a group of young, aspiring musicians who would eventually form Roots Uprising, one of South Florida’s premier reggae bands. As one of the lead vocalists and saxophonist, SEA B helped establish the band’s authentic reggae sound, earning a loyal following through dynamic performances across the United States, Haiti, and Barbados.
Roots Uprising’s growing reputation led to television appearances, newspaper features, and an association with the legendary reggae group Inner Circle and its Top-Ranking record label. The band’s recording of “Master Blaster (Jammin’)” showcased its musicianship and helped earn opportunities to perform alongside internationally acclaimed artists, including Inner Circle, Third World and Yellow Man. The band’s exceptional talent also attracted the attention of music icon Stevie Wonder, who expressed interest in producing several members of the group.
Just as the band was enjoying growing recognition, two things of great significance occurred that impacted the band’s future. First, three members of the band (brothers) left the group for an opportunity with Stevie Wonder. Second, tragedy struck. During a trip together, SEA B and his brother Winston Marrah (fellow band member), were involved in a devastating automobile accident that claimed Winston’s life with SEA B surviving the crash after sustaining injuries. The heartbreaking loss brought an unexpected end to a remarkable chapter in his musical journey. Although he stepped away from performing for a time, his passion for music never diminished. Instead, the experience deepened his songwriting and strengthened his resolve to create music that carries hope, purpose, and authenticity.
After returning to the studio, SEA B fulfilled a lifelong dream with the release of his debut solo album, Yes It’s True. The project showcased his talents as a songwriter, vocalist, arranger, and producer, while the album’s standout single, “Oh Jah,” climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard Reggae chart, establishing him as a respected solo artist.
He followed with his critically acclaimed sophomore album, Journey Through Space and Time, a masterful blend of reggae, rhythm & blues, and soul that bridges generations of music lovers. Collaborating with accomplished musicians and producers, including Ronnie Moses, Paul Faqhourie, and Fabian Cooke, SEA B continued to refine his signature sound while remaining true to the authenticity of reggae music.
A passionate advocate for preserving reggae’s rich heritage, SEA B is committed to writing songs that entertain while leaving a lasting message. His 2018 single, A Vibe A Gwaan, celebrates Jamaica’s history, culture, and the enduring struggle for freedom and human rights, introducing younger generations to the heroes whose sacrifices helped shape the nation.

Growing up near Gordon Town, just outside Kingston, Sea B found himself surrounded by the heartbeat of Jamaican music. As a boy, he sacrificed his lunch money to collect records from legendary voices like U Roy, John Holt, and The Paragons—artists who would shape the soundtrack of his youth.
As he matured, the soulful power of Dennis Brown, Peter Tosh, and Aretha Franklin resonated deeply with him. These influences became the foundation upon which Sea B began crafting his own distinct style—a blend of reggae, rhythm & blues, and soul, infused with messages of truth and spirituality.
Although music was always his calling, Sea B valued education just as strongly. He graduated from Excelsior High School before migrating to the United States, where his musical destiny would begin to take form.
While attending college in Miami, SEA B connected with a group of musicians who shared his passion. Together, they formed Roots Uprising, which quickly grew into one of the most recognized reggae bands from South Florida.
The early group consisted of featuring Barry Marrah (AKA SEA B), Bentley Ray, Raynor Washington, Richard Bryce, Teddy Greeves, Winston Marrah.
Touring across the United States, Barbados, and Haiti, Roots Uprising built a loyal fanbase, and SEA B’s artistry flourished. His time with the band sharpened his vocal delivery, saxophone skills, and stage presence—lessons that would fuel his solo career.
In 2007, SEA B released his debut 13-track studio album, “Yes It’s True.” The project featured the powerful single “Oh Jah,” which catapulted him into the spotlight as a solo artist. The song reached the Billboard Top 10, solidifying his reputation as a reggae artist whose message transcends borders.
This success led him to the studio, where countless late nights and early mornings gave birth to his second album, “Journey Through Space & Time.” The album produced was hailed as a fresh yet authentic addition to reggae. Blending reggae, rhythm & blues, and soul, it bridged generations and introduced SEA B’s timeless sound to a wider audience.
Beyond melodies, SEA B has always believed in music as a tool for education and empowerment. His 2018 single, “A Vibe A Gwaan,” is a testament to this vision. With lyrics addressing Black history and human rights, the track has resonated worldwide, earning heavy rotation among DJs and sparking conversations among youth about culture and identity.
